BlueInk Review calls The Royal Rogue "a compelling first novel"

Updated: 21 hours ago

The Royal Rogue received its very first trade review today. When I saw the email in my inbox, I was nervous. I didn't know how the story would land. This book was my first steps back into fiction after a multiyear hiatus, and BlueInk's reviews are written by professionals who are well-respected within the publishing industry.

But then I opened it, and y'all...to say I am over the moon is an understatement. What they had to say made my entire year.

BlueInk review described The Royal Rogue as a "compelling first novel."

"Incorporating themes of xenophobia, forbidden love, and political intrigue, this is an engaging story that successfully blends romantasy elements with traditional epic fantasy tropes. Carlton delivers a detailed Nevaharday culture brimming with familiar fantasy characters and creatures (elves, unicorns, warring sorcerers, etc.). The novel particularly shines in the development of its diverse characters, such as Jaycent and Levee, benevolent sorcerer Patchi, villain Rykar, and Levee’s childhood sweetheart Milo, whose love for Levee adds a layer of dramatic tension to the story’s central romance."
